3 Benefits of Making Your Own Dryer Sheets

Most of us know air drying our clothing is the way to go—not only is it better on the environment, it also helps reduce static cling in clothes—but there are times where line drying isn’t an option. Here is an eco-friendly alternative from Green Cleaning Hacks:

Make your own dryer sheets:

Mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 25 drops of essential oil

Place pieces of fabric in the solution

When you’re ready to use, just wring one out and throw it in the dryer

I cut the fabric into 5” by 5” squares. I do wonder if they would be more effective if they were larger pieces of fabric, so the next time I put clothes in the dryer I will probably put two in to see if there’s a difference. I used cotton fabric and was able to fit four pieces in the solution.

3 benefits of making your own dryer sheets:

  1. Zero waste: use and reuse these “sheets” by putting them back into the solution after use.

  2. Cost effective: I had white vinegar and essential oils already, but these are both affordable options even if they’re not readily on hand, especially when compared to buying and re-buying dryer sheets. The fabric I used was from old shirts that were already cut up for other projects, but I am sure you could find an old cotton shirt in you closet to use!

  3. Effective for static: compared to dryer balls, I found these homemade dryer sheets to be much more effective on the static of my clothes.

    In my book, that’s a win-win-win.
