Your Ethical Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Need to find an affordable, ethically sourced Mother’s Day gift ASAP? We’ve got you covered!

Here are some ideas from companies that are sustainably produced and/or certified fair trade. To be fair trade certified means the company makes sure those producing their good receives a fair and reliable wage for the service they are providing. While fair trade certified companies do seek to be sustainable, products can be sustainably sourced without being certified as “fair trade.” So, if you’re looking for a Mother’s Day gift that is sustainably produced and supports fair wages, read below!

1.     Synergy Organic: Santa Cruz, California

  • Specializes in apparel

  • Offers gift cards

This is by far one of my favorite places to purchase clothing from. The clothes are so, so comfortable and are produced with organic cotton and low impact dyes, and Synergy is fair trade certified! Organic cotton doesn’t use the conventional pesticides and fertilizers, making it better for the environment, and the low impact dyes use less water and are safer for your body. Right now they are offering free U.S. shipping for orders over $50, and (bonus!) Synergy Organic is often available at Whole Foods!

2.     PACT Organic: Boulder, Colorado

  • Specializes in apparel as well as bed and bath

  • Offers maternity clothing

Similar to Synergy, PACT Organic uses organic cotton and is fair trade certified. In addition to specializing in general apparel, PACT also offers a maternity line as well as home goods like comforters, towels, and crib sheets made to the same organic and fair trade standards. If you sign up for their email list, you will receive 20% off your first order as well as free shipping for orders over $50!

3.     The Eco Warrior

  • Specializes in sustainable alternatives for the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and on-the-go

  • Offers e-gift cards

If your mom is like mine and is in the process of figuring out her own zero waste lifestyle, check out some of the products from The Eco Warrior to help jumpstart her journey! The Eco Warrior has so many products for someone pursuing a more sustainable lifestyle from reusable produce bags to bamboo utensils to food storage…the list could go on and on. The gist is, if you’re looking for a gift for the more sustainably minded Momma, check out The Eco Warrior. They have a sale right now for 10% off with code STAYHOME and offer free carbon neutral delivery for orders over $50.

4.     Ethical Bean: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

  • Specializes in coffee beans

If you’re trying to buy for a mom of young kids, I can speak from experience that coffee will not fail. Ethical Bean is a fair trade and organic company based in Canada. Right now they are offering free shipping for orders at least $100 on their website, BUT if you’re in the U.S., check out their products on Amazon!

5.     Noble Living: Victoria, Minnesota

  • Specializes in clutches, purses, and farmers market bags

  • Takes custom orders

You had to know this was coming, right? For the mom with a more minimalist style, check out the clutches, purses, earrings, and market bags that are sustainably produced from fabric and yarn remnants, directly diverting from the waste stream and, as a result, curbing the dangerous greenhouse gases emitted by most fabric. Noble Living offers free shipping and 20% off your purchase if you sign up for the email list!

I hope this list helps, and Happy Mother’s Day!
