DIY Upcycled Dish Towels

As I move into the kitchen portion of sustainable living, I thought a good bridge from clothing would be to use fabric from old clothing to make some dish towels. These are so easy, and will greatly reduce your paper towel waste!

1. Find a piece of clothing with fabric that you like for the texture of your towels. I picked one that is made of cotton, and that’s what’s recommended, but you could also test the absorbancy of other fabric before you cut into it.

2. Cut two rectangles or squares out of your fabric of the same size

3. Place the two pieces of fabric with the outside facing each other and sew around the edge, leaving enough of a space to flip your towel right side out (I usually leave about 3 inches).

4. Pull the towel through your opening so it’s right side out.

5. Fold the top of the opening down so it lines up with the rest of the row and pin it

6. Sew around the outside and you’re done!
