5 Easy Sustainable Living Tips for your Week

1. This one is pretty common by now: switch to reusable straws.

The best way I’ve found to stay on top of this was to get a straw that collapses and attaches to my keychain, so it comes with me everywhere!

2. Switch to refillable cleaning supplies.

There are a few companies that offer glass bottles that can be refilled with cleaning solution—usually either a tablet or a concentrate that you mix with water. This saves so many plastic cleaning bottles from ending up in the landfill!

3. Use up what you have before buying more.

Some of my tips include buying new items that will last a lot longer, but there is a lot already in your home that you can use up before buying new. Best practice would be to use up what you have, and as you run out have a plan for which sustainable items you will replace it with.

4. Reuse carry-out containers:

I have had a deadline for school looming the past few weeks, so I have gotten more lax about what we have for dinner. One of the best things to come out of this is that now I have more containers to use for packing mine and my daughters lunches every day. You can also do this with containers from other food!

5. Reuse glass food jars for passing on plants!

This is one of my favorite things to do. I propagate my plants pretty regularly and pass them on to friends, and instead of buying new pots for them, I use glass jars. You can even wrap twine around the outside to cover the glass if you want it to look a little nicer
