Noble Living: Plans and Pivots

This week I am taking a break from my weekly email of sustainable living tips and focusing instead on communicating my dreams for this company. I started Noble Living one year ago, and have spent the past year trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. I have learned a lot about website production, social media, email marketing, sewing, and practicing macramé. During this time, I have also gone through a breakup, become a single mom, and gotten into the field of early childhood education. I have seen that being a single mom doesn’t just require support for yourself and a livable wage, there is also a deep need for extra resources for young children that will set them up for—and impact—the rest of their lives. For example, learning interpersonal skills in early childhood has been associated with success much later in life, and early literacy intervention is an essential part of learning to read and write.

That being said, I have realized the need for a more holistic approach to supporting the women I want to employ at this company some day. My focus so far has been on building a company that provides a livable wage for single moms while also giving them a flexible schedule that works around their family needs. The products I want to produce also aim to minimize waste and provide a more sustainable future for our children. Since becoming more aware of the importance of early childhood education as an aspect of supporting single moms, I have decided to add early childhood resources to my website. While these will eventually be used for the moms employed by Noble Living, right now I am producing them to help busy teachers who need lesson plans for the week and parents who want to further support their preschoolers’ literacy journey at home.

It is going to be awhile before all of these pieces of Noble Living come together—the sustainability goals, hiring single moms, and supporting early childhood education—but I see each area beginning to grow on their own, and this gives me hope for the future of the company.

The main point I want to end on is that I am so, so grateful for every person who has supported this company during the past year, from following along on social media, helping me brainstorm, taking pictures of my products, purchasing products, and joining the email list. These may seem like small steps, but they are going to have significant impact in the future of Noble Living.

I will leave you with the first draft of the future headquarters of Noble Living:
